Project
Objective
T&E's project
"Freight: From Road to Rail" is a fact finding and awareness raising
project. Its objective is first to learn about the reasons why freight transport
by railways is still stagnating while political objectives are demanding to
shift freight from road to railways. Second, these facts must be
disseminated together with proposals to change the current situation to
influence the decision making process.
Activities
The main activities of the
project are networking on European and national level, collecting facts and
disseminating them, writing papers and publications, organising seminars
and conferences.
Results
The main reason for the
unequal development is the lack of a level playing field between transport
modes. The price system must become fair and efficient, applying the users pay
principle, rail freight services must be improved, the rail market liberalised,
the unequal investments in transport infrastructure balanced and high safety,
social and environmental regulation applied and enforced for all transport
modes.
